Naomi Campbell is “inconvenienced” by blood diamond gift 13 years ago Model Naomi Campbell has turned up at a UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague. The 40-year-old appeared at the tribunal as it investigates the former Liberian president Charles Taylor.

After confirming her name and date of birth at the trial, she told how she was given some ‘dirty stones’ in a pouch by two men who came to her hotel room one night 13 years ago and said to her: “A gift for you.”

Campbell was asked at the tribunal if she was nervous and she said: “No, well I didn’t really want to be here so I was made to be here so obviously I’m wanting this to be over with and get on with my life. This is a big inconvenience to me.”

Asked why, she said: “Because I really didn’t want anything to do with this and I care about the protection of my family.” The night before she received the stones, she had dinner with former South African president Nelson Mandela.

The morning after she was given the pouch she had breakfast with her former agent Carole White and the actress Mia Farrow and she claims one of them said the stones could have come from Charles Taylor. The model then claims she didn’t thank Taylor for the gift but looked for her friend Jeremy Ratcliffe and then gave the diamonds to him. The case continues.
