Joaquin Phoenix might fall in love with J. Edgar Hoover onscreen Evidence that Joaquin Phoenix is certainly still there in the acting world, word arises that he’s being offered the chance to play J. Edgar Hoover’s lover in the new Clint Eastwood film about the controversial FBI director.

DiCaprio is being looked at to play Hoover and once his deal is sealed, Phoenix should be locked down. Phoenix will play Clyde Tolson, the secret gay lover and protégé of Hoover’s.

Tolson inherited Hoover’s estate after his death and accepted the U.S. flag at the director’s funeral. Both men’s graves are only a few yards apart at the Congressional Cemetery. Hoover was known to hunt down those men who questioned his sexual identity.

Screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk) penned the script and the film is being fast tracked as Eastwood’s next project.

Vulture had the news.
