Mel Gibson ‘Beaver’ film whittled down to a DVD release? Is Jodie Foster’s comedy “The Beaver” heading to DVD?

There’s some scuttle bucket that the edgy comedy starring Mel Gibson as a man who befriends a puppet on his hand is sidestepping a theatrical release. The pic’s distributor Summit Entertainment refutes such news and says that “Beaver” will bow next year.

In the film, Foster also plays Gibson’s wife.

An E! Online source said: “It’s going straight to DVD. I heard it from Jodie.”

Should “Beaver” be chucked to the DVD woodpile, it will be the second blow to the actor after being axed from his cameo in “Hangover 2.”

“Beaver” marks Foster’s third directing effort after ‘90s fare “Little Man Tate” and “Home for the Holidays.”
