Regis Philbin surprises “Live” audience with retirement announcement
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Regis Philbin announced at the start of his daytime talk show this morning that he will be retiring after nearly 25 years on the air.
Philbin told the studio audience that he would be stepping down around the end of the summer, but did not give a specific date.
ABC News says that Philbin, 79, is a three-time Emmy Award winner who also was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 2008.
Who do you think will replace Philbin? Jay Mohr has had great chemistry with co-star Kelly Ripa, as has her own husband, Mark Consuelos. But will people continue to watch “Life” without Regis? We shall see.
