Sylvester Stallone takes on next role as a hitman Sylvester Stallone has played everything from an underdog boxer to a merciless Vietnam war vet throughout his prolific career. Now, the Academy Award-nominee is gearing up for his role as a hitman in the forthcoming action film, “Headshot.”

Stuart Ford of IM Global, which is producing the film along with Alexander Milchan’s EMJAG Productions, announced the film Sunday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ford will shop the project around foreign buyers at the European Film Market, taking place this week in Berlin.

Ford told The Hollywood Reporter: “Headshot is exactly the type of fast-paced, universally themed project that suits our business model. Sylvester Stallone is an international icon and we’re really excited to be in business with him.”

The film is a straight-up, high-concept action flick that brings together a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a New York City detective in a dangerous investigation leading them from New Orleans to Washington, D.C. Headshot was written by Alessandro Camon, who was previously nominated for a best original screenplay Oscar for the 2009 indie drama The Messenger.

Wayne Kramer (The Cooler) is slated to direct the project, which commences production in May.
