Tom Cruise plans to rock out in next film role Tom Cruise has lined up his next role after 2010’s mixed reviewed “Knight and Day,” and it offers a nice change-up to Cruise’s usual action fare.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Cruise is in final talks to star in Rock of Ages, an adaptation of a Broadway musical that features tunes from 1980s rockers such as Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and Styx. According to THR, Cruise is cast as Stacee Jax, which most likely means he will be stretching his vocal chords to sing Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead of Alive,” as the character does so in the Broadway musical.

It is rumored that Russell Brand and Alex Baldwin are also interested in the project.

Adam Shankman (Hairspray) is directing the film, with production scheduled to begin in May.
