Mel Gibson not going to jail for battery case Mel Gibson entered his plea of no contest today in his misdemeanor battery case and, as a result, he will be avoiding jail time.

Gibson has reportedly been sentenced to 36 months of informal probation, one year of counseling and 16 hours of community service, states Gibson was almost facing felony charges, but was only charged with misdemeanor battery.

A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt in relation to the charges.
