Mark McGrath fired from “Celebrity Apprentice”; mostly loose cannons remain

Mark McGrath

By Kim Palacios Who would’ve thought that at this point in “Celebrity Apprentice”, so many loose cannons would remain? Yet, weeks into the competition, many of the most controversial personalities have stood the test of time.

Mark McGrath was fired. Niki Taylor resigned. Jose Canseco left unexpectedly last week. David Cassidy was the first player to be voted off. Lisa Rinna, after early confrontations with her teammates, left rather anticlimactically.

Among those remaining are outspoken “Real Housewife of Atlanta” Nene Leakes, “The View” veteran Star Jones, LaToya Jackson, and consistent troublemakers, Meatloaf and Gary Busey. In fact, the only rabble rouser to leave the show in recent weeks was Motown diva Dionne Warwick.

Less controversial players like Marlee Matlin, Hope Dworaczyk, John Rich and Li’l John will need to survive drama queens Leakes, Jones, and Jackson while escaping the unpredictable wrath of Meatloaf and Busey. Thus far, Matlin and Rich have been the most successful project managers, with Matlin raising nearly $1M for her charity, an “Apprentice” show record.

This season is pretty good. They have a great mix of people.

What I am finding interesting so far is how these “celebs” is the differences between their carefully sculpted Public Personalities, and how they are when they’re in a stressful situation, with no chance to leave, no manager to tell them what to do or howto “spin” certain comments & actions, and no bodyguards to stop the cameramen from filming. I really, REALLY hate reality shows, but there’s a couple that just show people… maybe not at their “worst”, but certainly in a way that shows their true personality. Like the first (and ONLY) season of DWTS that I watched. Master P was on it, and oh lord was he jerk from hell! But on this current season of Celeb Apprentice, Lil’ Jon is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team, while many rappers would say, “No, I’m not putting on a pirate suit! I have a ‘steet’ image to maintain!” My only problem is putting Gary Busey on the show. I mean, everything they showed Mark McGrath saying or doing in reaction to Busey’s antics is exactly how I would react – try everything in the book to get through to Gary, and then start pulling out my hair and developing numerous ulcers when that didn’t work! But seriously, they had Gary on Celeb Rehab one season (THAT is a show to watch for a celeb’s “bottom of the barrel, no facade” personality – as well as being the only other reality show I watch. Why the HELL can’t we get VH1 in Canada??), and they showed the damage done by decades of heavy drug use, as well as traumatic brain injury. So, IMHO, putting Gary on Celeb App. is just plain cruel. No better than putting The Elephant Man in a circus freak show so that others could gawk at him. Gary obviously has severe short-term memory impairment (as witnessed on the latest episode of CA); he was diagnosed while on Celeb Rehab as having a condition that impairs/removes the “filter” between his thoughts and his actions & what he says. Basically, he can’t tell if something is appropriate to say or do.

I’m going to shut up; this is JMHO, but it’s going WAYYYY off-topic!
