“Thor” tops “Bridesmaids” at Friday box

Hollywoodnews.com: So far, the hammer is proving mightier than the bridal bouquet at the weekend box office.
Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” has earned an estimated $9.1 million on Friday, giving it an edge over newcomer “Bridesmaids” in the race for No. 1. The Universal comedy, which received very strong reviews, earned an estimated $7.8 million, and could top $21 million on the weekend, according to THR.
But all indications seem to suggest that “Thor” will hold on to its box office crown for at least one more weekend. (Next week, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” should have no trouble sailing past all competitors.)
The latest in a growing line of Marvel superhero stories, “Thor” has now earned north of $300 million at the global box, while it should cross $100 million domestically once weekend actuals are reported.
