Japanese “Super 8” poster has Spielberg written all over it
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: J.J. Abrams’ “Super 8” landed near the top of our summer movie must-see list long before Paramount’s publicity machine started ramping up. But an onslaught of recent promos bits have us convinced that Abrams has tapped into something special.
Telling the story of young friends who encounter an alien while they’re setting out to create their own original film (using a Super 8 camera, of course), the project always had the feel of early Spielberg … which makes sense because Abrams idolizes the “E.T.” director and, well, Spielberg’s actually an executive producer on this film.
But a new, Japanese poster for “Super 8” that made its debut over at FirstShowing tips its hat directly toward Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” with a semi-shot of the space ship that might be coming down to claim the alien that escapes from the train in the film’s centerpiece action shot. It’s a gorgeous poster, and one that we’ve included below.

If “Super 8” figures out how to capture “Close Encounters” with “Cloverfield” and a touch of Abrams’ “Star Wars” lens flares (!!), it will be the sleeper hit of Summer 2011.
The movie opens in the States on June 10.
