New York Film Critics Circle moves its date back … by one day – AWARDS ALLEY

By Sean O’Connell
hollywoodnews.com: The New York Film Critics Circle took a beating in the press when they decided to preempt the National Board of Review by moving their end-of-year to a date that was pretty far away from the end of the year. Want to tell them how badly they’re messing things up? Well, now you can tweet them a message with a proper hash tag.

The group announced today that they will be posting their awards during their annual vote via twitter. Track their progress at @NYFCC2011.

In making the announcement, the NYFCC also revealed that they’re moving their voting date back one day to Tuesday, Nov. 29. It was believed that David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” might not be ready to screen in time for the group’s vote. I wonder if that affected the change?

“We were looking forward to voting on Monday, Nov. 28, but due to conflicting schedules, we have made the decision to move back a day to ensure all of our voters have the opportunity to see all of the eligible films.”

With the absence of a clear frontrunner, I will be genuinely excited to see where the NYFCC throws its support. Will their votes boost a campaign for “The Artist” or “The Descendants?” Will they spread the love to fringe players like “Shame,” “Martha Marcy May Marlene?” Or will they go completely off the board for a deserving title that hasn’t been given the attention yet?
