Trailer Round Up: “Suspiria”, “White Boy Rick”, “Widows”, and “Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet”

Today has been a hell of a day for Trailers. Over the course of the morning/early afternoon, a quartet of high profile films released first looks. The movies in question are the remake of Suspiria from Luca Guadagnino, White Boy Rick, Widows from Steve McQueen, and Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet. With so many other things to talk about this week, it wasn’t feasible to give them their own posts right now, so we’ll be doing one big round up article. From genre entertainment to Academy Award hopefuls, we’ve got a little bit of everything to take a look at.

First up is Suspiria. Coming from the aforementioned Guadagnino as his follow up to Call Me By Your Name, it’s a long brewing remake of Dario Argento’s horror classic. Finally hitting this November 2nd, it seeks to introduce a whole new generation to the story. A tale of a coven of witches terrorizing the students at a prestigious dance academy, the film stars Lutz Ebersdorf, Mia Goth, Jessica Harper, Dakota Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Tilda Swinton, among others. Penned by David Kajganich, this could be more than your garden variety horror remake. The movie looks atmospheric and beautiful, with some disturbing things to come. The early buzz is strong, so while this is just a Teaser, it does set us up to definitely want to know more. Consider me very intrigued.

Here is the Teaser Trailer for Suspiria:

Next we have White Boy Rick. This is, according to IMDb: “The story of teenager Richard Wershe Jr., who became an undercover informant for the FBI during the 1980s and was ultimately arrested for drug-trafficking and sentenced to life in prison.” Matthew McConaughey plays the father, Richard Wershe Sr., while the rest of the cast includes Rory Cochrane, RJ Cyler, Bruce Dern, Piper Laurie, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Eddie Marsan, Richie Merritt, Bel Powley, and more. Yann Demange directs a script from the team of Steve Kloves, Logan Miller, Noah Miller, and Andy Weiss (the latter three have story credit as well). This appears to be a gritty drama, with some potential Oscar appeal. Definitely one to be excited for when it comes out on September 14th.

Here now is the Trailer for White Boy Rick:

Up next is Widows. Coming from the previously mentioned McQueen, it’s his first effort since 12 Years A Slave. Co-writing with Gillian Flynn, the pedigree here is impressive. The star studded cast includes Jon Bernthal, Carrie Coon, Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Garret Dillahunt, Robert Duvall, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Lukas Haas, Daniel Kaluuya, Liam Neeson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jacki Weaver, and more. The plot is described by 20th Century Fox as the following: “”Widows” is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.” Yeah, count me in. Another November effort, it hits on the 16th of that month. There’s a chance this is an Academy player, even if it is a genre effort, so keep that in mind…

Take a gander at the Trailer for Widows:

Finally, we have Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet. John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman again star as Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz, respectively. This time, their adventure takes them to the internet, with chaos promised within. The rest of the cast includes Taraji P. Henson, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer, Ed O’Neill, and Alan Tudyk, among others, but the selling point is that all of the original Disney princess voices will be cameoing. You can see the scene in the Trailer, and it’s a joy to witness. That alone makes this a must see for me. Phil Johnston and Rich Moore co-direct the script from Pamela Ribon. This looks like a lot of fun when it hits on November 21st.

Feast your eyes on the Trailer for Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet now:

Stay tuned for plenty more on all four of these films as the year progresses!
