A First Crack At Post Nomination Predictions For The Academy Awards
With a few days of space in the Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday, it seems like a perfect time to dive into new predictions, right? Well, that’s just what is happening today. With full knowledge of who and what is in the running for wins, a whole new phase of the season begins. We’ll be seeing how the likes of BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther, Green Book, Roma, and A Star Is Born do up against each other as Best Picture nominees. More on that below, but actually making the lineup now has the titles plotting their next move, all in an effort to achieve Oscar glory.
For this first crack at picking what the Academy will do, it comes full well knowing that the Screen Actors Guild could switch things up this weekend. SAG has a chance to upend the race in a big way. Their version of Best Picture won’t have presumed front runner Roma in competition, so could a win for BlacKkKlansman or A Star Is Born set them up as the primary alternative for voters? What happens if Black Panther wins? Is it a bigger threat than expected? These are the things I’m pondering right now. This initial update is kind of a shot in the dark, so next week’s predictions should be at least slightly more rooted in fact. Until then…
