Updated Academy Award Predictions As February Begins
In a few weeks, the Oscar telecast will be upon us. In the next day or so, I’ll be detailing why it may be the worst ceremony (show wise) ever, but for the moment, we can just focus on who and what might be taking home statues. The Academy Awards are coming and there’s still a large sense that a lot is currently in flux or undecided. That makes for a fun sense of unpredictability, though it does make my job harder. I’m up for the challenge though, that much goes without saying. So, time to dive in with a new set of predictions.
What you’ll see below are my current Oscar picks. It still seems like Roma is in a great position to take home both Best Picture and Best Director (for Alfonso Cuaron). It’s hard to figure out how Green Book is going to factor into Picture, so it doesn’t make sense to predict it for the win right now. Black Panther is surging after its Screen Actors Guild win in Best Ensemble, moving past BlacKkKlansman for the moment. A lot still has to be decided, as we have Guild awards coming up, in addition to BAFTA. That will help tell the tale more so than anything, at this point. Stay tuned there…
