Updated Academy Award Predictions As Voters Cast Their Ballots

In just over a week, the Oscar telecast, in what used to be all of its glory, will be held. There, those categories lucky enough to not be shown during commercial breaks will be honored. It’s the end of the road for this year’s Academy Awards, and thankfully, despite all of the chaos, we’re entering the big night with some genuine suspense. Best Picture is far from sewn up, a handful of the technical categories are essentially at pick-em status, and it doesn’t have the feel of a coronation. So, while the powers that be within the Academy have done as much as possible to screw the Oscars up, the films themselves have held strong.

At this point, the race is a close one. Best Picture is obviously where all the marbles are, and there we see it likely down to Green Book or (the frontrunner) Roma, with Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, and The Favourite still hoping to shock the world with an upset. There’s also a late surge potentially brewing in Best Supporting Actress for Rachel Weisz. Can her work in The Favourite pull an upset over Regina King and her turn in If Beale Street Could Talk? That will be one of the intriguing moments on the night, along with finally potentially seeing Spike Lee win a competitive Academy Award, in Best Adapted Screenplay for co-writing BlacKkKklansman. Sit tight…
