Updated Oscar Predictions For July
We’re knee deep in the summer now, my friends. With that, the blockbusters are almost all churned out, so the upcoming prestige pictures of the fall and winter are on the horizon. With the upcoming fall film festival lineups more or less set (more on that tomorrow), the movies looking for major Academy Award play seem to be positioning themselves for acclaim. Most remain to be seen, aside from one that opened today by a certain rebel auteur, but that’s part of the excitement. These predictions don’t have a ton of changes to them, but they hint at all of the possibilities to come.
This time around, there’s already a delay to report. The Woman in the Window has moved to 2020, taking Amy Adams out of the race. Plus, we have now seen Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Throw that into the hopper with Trailers having been released for all manner of contenders, from A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Ford v. Ferrari, Harriet, and Knives Out (not to mention Cats), and we have a race evolving. Right now, Tarantino’s epic seems like it could play well with voters, though of course Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman looms large for Netflix, along with Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story, which the streaming giant is incredibly confident in. It’s going to be a fun awards season folks, I know that for sure…
